I am deeply concerned about Australia's mathematical literacy crisis, particularly the growing trend of young people avoiding and even fearing mathematics. This problem is dire, as a lack of mathematical literacy across Australian society limits our ability to collectively unite in the face of our most pressing problems.

Throughout my career, I hope to advocate for the place of underrepresented groups in mathematics, particularly young women, LGBTQIA+ people, and people with disabilities. I have a significant amount of experience working with young people through my volunteering with United Nations Youth Australia, particularly being National President in 2021, and through other tutoring and volunteering roles.

I am always excited to hear about opportunities to be involved in DEI work in mathematics. I am on the committee of 'Mathematrix' which is Oxford Mathematics' minorities in mathematics society.Â
